I found these architectural lamps at Ikea today. Reminiscent of origami and folding facades, these inspired me to explore layering simple forms and materials into complex compositions. I heart Ikea…and here’s to democratic design!

Dear Ghadah!
Ikea designers are very clever…some eleate design to art and, in few cases, the final objects transcend utilitarian function…for example the woven parts of these lamps are nests, building, sculpture. Thank you so much for your comment! It has been hard to find time to post, but your comments-and your extraordinary blog- motivate me to show up to my art in a more consistent way.
I believe to be an artist is not only to create art, but to find art in life, in everyday objects, and finally, to live more fully.
