The Cinqueterre (Five Lands) are five small towns on the Adriatic Sea, in the region of Liguria–this is the region in Northwest Italy which borders France. Liguria is mostly known for its head-city (regional capital) of Genoa, which is an important maritime and commercial node for all of Europe. It rivaled Venice for importance in trade. One can visit the Cinqueterre by foot and by ferry: the photograph was taken on the long but immensely pleasant walkway between two of the Cinqueterre. Liguria is famous for its olive oil and wine.
